Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has urged his team to click back into gear despite watching them reach the knockout stages of the Champions League with a 1-1 draw at Valencia The Bavarians were on the brink of defeat when Sofiane Feghouli gave the ten-man Spanish team the lead after 77 minutes, but Thomas Muller rescued a point with an 82nd-minute equaliser.
"We can be satisfied with the result, but not with the game," Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said. "If you have an extra man for an hour but end up being relieved it has finished 1-1, that isn't satisfactory. We need to get into gear and hit the gas again."
Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes made five changes to the team that drew 1-1 with Nurnberg at the weekend, and skipper Philipp Lahm said: "We're frustrated, because we could have come away with more today. We chose the wrong option in a number of situations."
Valencia coach Mauricio Pellegrino praised his players' attitude after they came within minutes of sealing top spot at the Mestalla. Los Che's ten players impressed after right-back Antonio Barragan was sent off by referee Howard Webb for a senseless flying challenge on David Alaba midway through the first half.
Feghouli's deflected strike seemed to have won them the match, and Pellegrino said: "We saw a very good game, but it got away from us in the end.
"We had to suffer, as they have a lot of quality, but we were clever. We still had chances with ten men and kept going until we got the goal. It was just a pity it got away from us by so little."
Goalscorer Feghouli, who spent a lot of the game at right-back after the sending-off, said he was happy with how he and his teammates had pulled together, saying: "We played a fantastic game, and we are very happy because we deserve to have qualified."
Lille's surprise 2-0 win at BATE means both Valencia and Bayern progress to the knockout stages, with Bayern needing to beat BATE at home in the final game to ensure a first-placed finish.
